i am souly against capital punishment. it isnt justice, its vengeance. its murder. killing, when it is not a true accident, or an act of immediate defense of ones self or another, is murder. saddam was by no means a good man, but he was a human, and killing him was murder. the only suitable sentence for murderers is a permanent prison sentence, no parole on good behavior, no sentence ranges, just permanet prison, jail until death. no one can justify and injustifiable act, and capital punishment is injustifiable. So many peopel give all of their reasons, for why capital punishment is okay and i could list dozens if i thought about it, but it all amounts to nothing. it doesnt matter if tax dollars go into imprisoning murders, it doesnt matter if they could possibly escape. Taxes exist for a reason, such as building prisons and housing criminals. build enhanced maximum security prisons for murderers, so what if it costs. A society with morals woudl pay the money to house criminals, and respect a human life, even if that human him/herself did not. think about the past, how many things a person could be executed for the further you go back, black men lynched for being romantically involved with white woman, slaves being beaten to death for insubordination, witches being burnded at the stake, crimals boiled in tar or oil, children murdered for disobedience, all lawful in their respective times. we jsut have a few more steps to go. a person murdering someone, does not permit society to murder that murderer, merely imprison, (and certainly treason, does not permit murder, regardless of law) an eye for an eye makes the whoel world blind. was it ghandi that said that. i was saddened by the hanging. i thought it was a triumph to oust saddam, regardless of the fact that im against the war. and then they hung him, and what did the world do, they didnt care. they undid all of the good that came with his ousting. It woudl have been yet another triumph for Iraq and the world, to see a murder, the ex-tyrant of a nation, given true justice, to be tried for all of his crimes, found guilty and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole, for having commited and sponsered and ordered murder. it woudl have set an example of compassion and morality and true justice for the country, the region, and the world. but they killed him, and hsi codefendents. It was not an act of justice, it was not deserved, it was not punishment, it was not freedom or liberation. it was vengeance, it was a killing, it was cold blooded murder commited by a society in need of moral reform, no, moral growth. i find comfort only in the knowledge that society progresses as is its nature. and there will come a day when all or at least the majority of humanity will have compassion for all life, even that which lacks compassion and will see the vulgarity and evil of capital punishment, and do away with it forever.
