Thoughts?
I personally think their not planning to bomb anyone, but just to show everyone that they are a risk and countries should not take them as a small worthless country.

The problem is no one takes them as small, everyone knows that millions, literally, would die after a 2nd (or if you wish, Korean War: Part 2) Korean war, mostly civilians.
But they may want us to fear them, which we won't do. I wonder what the next step will be after this test, what else do they have left to make us scared about? A missile system that can carry a nuke I don't think will be for a while.
They have proof of bombs and you don't want to bomb. Iraq didn't show any sign of having bombs, nor did they test them. Yet, you(people for the iraq war) still wanted to attack them.

In 2002 George W Bush named North Korea as part of the 'Axis of Evil', along with Iran and Iraq. But unlike present-day Iran and Saddam’s Iraq, North Korea actually admits to having weapons of mass destruction. A US attack on North Korea runs the risk of a nuclear response - but America fears that, left alone, North Korea will sell weapons technology to enemy states. It’s a stalemate - one that dates back 50 years. I CAN'T SEE THIS CHANGING IN THE NEXT 20 YEARS, NUCLEAR WEAPONS OR NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS .

If we attacked North Korea we would eliminate there nuclear plants and devices, I'd imagine top priority. However the whole 10,000 artillery batteries pointed at Seol including shells with WMD components and other WMD programs, would be the response that would be most worrying IMO in a war with the North.
But I don't think they want to commit suicide and start the war (and at this time we won't start it) so selling it is without a doubt the most worrying aspect since we could do little to stop it short of excellent intelligence. I would imagine if we stopped it the retaliation would be severe.
US General in South Korea predicts second test"SEOUL: The head of US forces in South Korea on Monday predicted North Korea will stage a second nuclear test, as experts said the Stalinist regime's security threat should not overshadow "crimes against humanity" by its rulers."I can only surmise that since they've tested one, that some time in the future we're going to get another test of a nuclear device," General B.B. Bell said.Referring to the North's nuclear and missile programmes, he added: "I think we can expect future tests as part of their programme to develop these kinds of very provocative weapons."

I'm amazed that a moderator on this forum can be so ignorant. Oh yeah hes a republican.

Moderator or not, we're all entitled to our own differing opinions. I actually agree with him in this case.
I believe that all they are doing is exercising what they feel is their "right" to be a nuclear power, alongside america and all the other nuclear states (russia, china, UK, france). They want to make a statement to the rest of the world that they are a country to be taken seriously.
North Korea Prepping Nuclear Weapons Test"North Korea appears to have made preparations for another nuclear test, according to U.S. defense officials. "We think they've put everything in place to conduct a test without any notice or warning," a senior U.S. defense official told ABC News. The official cautions that the intelligence is inconclusive as to whether North Korea will actually go ahead with another test but said the preparations are similar to the steps taken by Pyongyang before it shocked the world by conducting its first nuclear test last Oct. 9."Looks like they may actually be going through it this time, though I wonder what sanctions are left...
