Yeah, I know going from adding an entirely new section on the website to maintenance is a let down but it's something that has to be done!
Good news with the site is that the alexa rank has gone up, to 196k which is great. Activity is still low however I am looking for staff and link exchanges, might be posting at craigslist and get out a few bulletins and ask for link exchanges with myspace groups, etc. Traffic this month was also up although the buying traffic experiment influenced that number, will have a better idea for January.
For the maintenance I am trying to get as high up and on google as much as possible, so I submitted a sitemap and checked out errors and hopefully fixed them all. After a week it will be easier to see what else there is to fix, nothing major but just some things such as an image showing which if it does not exist, is an error. More cleanliness than anything.
However I did add something nice and beneficial, for now on every news story accessed (note you must click to go to it, not see it say on the homepage) the full story is now stored in the database. What this means, basically, a lot of older news items are now almost pointless because numerous items are deleted or moved to some other URL, now not only will load times be increased but older news stories will be fully accessible for now on.
That is pretty much it for right now. For now I am looking through all the code, tweaking/fixing or adding small things (nothing hugely substantial) and possibly after some links, traffic and activity goes up then I can add some more bigger features.
