I guess I pose the question because and this is not a bad thing, but it seems the anti-war movement keeps growing larger and larger. Was there an anti-war group, at all, even back to the first World War? I'm sure there were but I would imagine the strength of the movement is many times larger than what it was, say 60 or so years ago. The next question we come upon is what exactly is anti-war? One could say they are only anti-war if its the aggressor, say for example in the Iraq war it would be the US and Germany say for World War II, but in the case of the first gulf war it would be both the US and Iraq. (since they both launched offensives, even though the US offensive was to get Iraq out of territory they didn't own)
It seems to me at least that there is a growing sentiment of no war and I fully understand this but I do wonder how people and I am not referring to those that don't really know what they are talking about (the normal person that doesn't know much at all about politics, doesnt know the candidates, etc.), but informed people such as those on news vine, how they can not be for war in any way. I can understand an isolation policy, although I think it has its flaws it also has it's advantages (but really doesn't work with large countries), but what about those that are not for war for any reason? Is it an opinion of those that think peace on earth can truly happen and by not supporting war and death, it will help the "peace on earth" cause?
As for the "peace on earth", what is really the main focus of this article (sorry I tend to stray, I know thats not good journalism but whatever), how exactly could peace on earth happen? When I ask a question or think of something I like to disect it, so that's what I will do with this too. Let's look at a few possibilities for "peace on earth", again this instance of the saying is where there is peace everywhere, war nowhere:

Nuclear War/Nuclear Strike

Although this is a good one history has shown that this does not happen, infact it sparks secret wars and wars where a country is "un-officially" involved. Even though there was no fighting between the US and the USSR during the cold war it was done through other ways which involved war. In the future I can't see this changing.

One nation in the world

This is one of the best ideas personally, if a single nation controlled the world then security would be the number one concern and would quell violence, if this was done militarily then there would be problems with civil wars. However the chance of this happening is almost as unlikely as "peace on earth". It would either happen through domination of war, which is again very unlikely especially since no country will allow another World War II type scenario, where a country just starts conquering. The other way would be through a "world peace treaty", which would also be very unlikely.

The anti-war movement

The most unlikely reason, although I respect people for sticking to there opinion and fighting what they believe in, for the same reason why the hunger strike by the anti-war movement to bring troops home, is frankly way too small and carries what weight? You can have a million people for a cause but aside from getting TV time who are you going to influence? Something like the anti-war movement would have to reach people in the white house and defense officials themselves, so far the strongest it's got is people like Sean Penn and Danny Glover, don't think so.

People will get tired of war

I guess this is an extension of the anti-war reason, where humanity will reach a point where they just say "to hell with war!". Considering over 50 (and I have seen figures up to 60) million died in World War II, 3 million in the Korean war, several million in the vietnam war, 15 million in world war I and countless others in not-so-famous conflicts among countries from Africa to Asia, civil wars, 1 million dead in the iran-iraq war, thousands dead in the gulf war 1 as well as almost 2 million dead in the soviet-afghanistan war....oh yeah all that happened in just the past 100 years. So what could possibly snap people out of there mindset and forget war totally? That's the question I have for those that think peace on earth is possible.

Just a few reasons but I can't honestly think of a good, well-thought reason how peace on earth will ever happen for anyone's lifetime. Feel free to give me a reason or chime in. And sorry for the straying and some-time random talking about other stuff, I have tried to work on it.
